The Creative Time Mentorship for Diversity in the Arts – 2 openings

Creative Time, NYC’s most exciting public art presenter, offers a unique opportunity for African American and Hispanic/Latino candidates to gain first-hand experience in contemporary art and non-profit management through a 10-week paid mentorship.  Aimed at diversifying the nonprofit arts sector and helping students underrepresented in the visual and cultural arts, the program pairs outstanding undergraduate and graduate students with mentors in the programming and fundraising teams to gain valuable knowledge of the field, establish connections for future employment, and develop marketable skills. Students will participate in a wide range of activities and enjoy exposure to the inner-workings of the organization through departmental and staff meetings, planning retreats, and more.  Successful applicants will have the opportunity to take on a substantial research or management project under the supervision of their mentor.

This paid position is available to current undergrad or graduate students with an interest in and curiosity about contemporary and public art and a desire to explore career opportunities in the field of non-profit culture.

STIPEND: The accepted applicant(s) will receive a stipend of $4,000 for 10 weeks, with a minimum time commitment of 3-4 days a week.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Applicants should have an interest in the contemporary arts field as well as a sense of humor and enthusiasm. In addition, solid writing, research, and computer skills are helpful, as is a professional and comfortable phone manner. Skills in Photoshop, Illustrator, FTP, HTML, art handling, and Excel are highly desirable, though not necessary. A willingness to learn and tackle new and unexpected projects is key! Applicants should have a high attention to detail and be very organized, motivated, and self-directed.

Director of Finance
Dance Theatre of Harlem, Inc.

Dance Theatre of Harlem seeks a Director of Finance to work closely with the Executive Director and Board Treasurer to oversee the development and management of the annual operating budgets, execute a high level of fiscal control, provide strategic recommendations for improved performances and practices; and manage relations with auditors, bankers, investment advisors, outside legal counsel and insurance brokers/providers.

The candidate should have 5 or more years of substantive experience in accounting for 501(C)(3) organizations, financial analysis, and budgeting with extensive knowledge of financial principles and practices in nonprofit organizations and should be knowledgeable and experienced with A/R, A/P, G/L, reporting, billing, and payroll.  

Responsibilities will include facilitation of the budgeting process, develop long-range, capital and other special budgets; supervise and direct review of all bookkeeping and day-to-day accounting work for the organization performed by the bookkeeper.  The position requires managing the maintenance and preparation by the Finance staff of records for payroll services, taxes, development reports and audits, monitor Compliance with restricted funding sources; generate program reporting as required by funders; and support grants proposal, maintenance and reporting processes with development department.  Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or business administration, CPA preferred and an interest/knowledge arts education, or the performing arts is an plus.

VAN LIER DIRECTING FELLOWSHIP

Looking for emerging Hispanic Directors to direct in Spanish.

THE 411:
Repertorio Español, the nation's pre-eminent Spanish language theater, is proud to announce the return of The Edward and Sally Van Lier Fellowship for Directors 2010. A fellowship designed to give emerging Hispanic directors living in New York City an opportunity to mount a professional theater production at Repertorio Español.

Each production is given a modest budget and a limited run. Three directors will be chosen to work on two productions each, one of their own choosing and one chosen in concert with the Theatre. Projects will begin Summer of 2010.

The Fellowship is funded by The New York Community Trust.

THE REQUIREMENTS:
*Be a resident of New York City and 30 years old or younger.
*Must be a graduate of a B.A. or M.F.A. program in dramatic arts.
*Have an integral knowledge of Classical Spanish theatre, contemporary Latin American and Hispanic-American playwrights.

THE BENEFITS:
*Direct two separate projects in Spanish at Repertorio Español
*Be given a small budget to cover all production costs
*Cast and oversee all production matters
*Make artistic decisions as related to costs
*Work within the parameters of the theatre
*Have 3 - 4 performances of each production at Repertorio Español
*Use of the theatre for auditions and rehearsals (as schedule permits)
*Receive mentoring from Repertorio's artistic and administrative leadership as well as guidance from the theatre's professional staff

Leasing Coordinator
Harlem Stage / Aaron Davis Hall Inc

Harlem Stage celebrates and perpetuate the unique and diverse artistic legacy of Harlem and the indelible impression it has made on American performing arts.  We provide opportunity and support for artists of color, and make performances easily accessible to all audiences.  We introduce children to the rich diversity, excitement and inspiration of the performing arts.

The Leasing Coordinator ensures that the preparation and coordination of Production, Operations, Front of House and Management is fully executed on the day of the event.  Responsible for making sure the contracted services are properly provided in addition to making sure all leasing clients are following the rules and regulations of the agreement.

Responsibilities Include:
• Coordinate Production, Front-of-house and Box Office services for leasing events
• Schedule and conduct coordination meetings with clients and Harlem Stage staff
• Represent Harlem Stage by attendance at Harlem Stage leasing events
• Ensure a consistently high level of patron satisfaction
• Assist Leasing Manager and Managing Director with coordination of leasing
• Assist with development of leasing sales materials
• Additional duties as requested

Requirements of the Position:
• Bachelors Degree or minimum of 2 years related experience
• Comprehensive knowledge of performance production
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Excellent organizational skills
• Excellent problem solving skills
• Strong attention to detail
• Ability to coordinate multiple tasks
• Working on weekends, evening hours, and occasional holidays required.
• Strong sense of teamwork
• Ability to communicate in Spanish is highly desirable.
